Is Cinderella a Catholic Story? Come Find Out!
Christmas Is Over, but the Magic Doesn’t Have to End!
Come with us to the land of happily ever afters and be spellbound as we uncover the secret Catholic truths hidden in Cinderella in our Catholic Movie Night. With insight from veteran instructor in literature, history, language arts, and logic Joan Ratajczac, it’s Disney’s 2015 Cinderella as you’ve never seen it before.
But What Makes Cinderella Catholic?
So why Cinderella for Catholic Movie Night? We think G.K. Chesterton put it best. “Cinderella seems a piece of very ordinary nursery gossip that surely might be called simple Bible teaching: ‘He hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted the meek and humble.’”
Cinderella echoes Mary’s Magnificat, but that’s just the start of the authentically Catholic themes to be found in this fairy tale. So why does it matter? It matters because in our broken world, happily ever afters seem like nothing but a fantasy–and most of the time, they are. But when we understand the symbols and truths they point to, when we recognize Prince Charming as the Prince of Peace, we begin to understand that our faith is no fantasy–it’s the real, true happily ever after our hearts were made for.
