Good. True. Beautiful.
Lighting a Fire in Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
The Angelico Project is a lay Catholic initiative, inspired by the Holy Spirit, in the Cincinnati region. Three aspects have developed the vision and goals of Angelico to evangelize the culture by leading with Beauty: Artistic Presentations; the Angelico Catholic Arts Guild; and the Education of the Person through the arts.
It all began in 2017 when Maureen Teller learned of The Sheen Center for Culture and Thought in NYC on Sacred Heart Radio. Maureen began sharing with friends what the Sheen Center was doing and the idea of bringing something similar to Cincinnati. Simultaneously, Nancy- Carolyn Smith, an artist and sculptor, was forming the vision of starting an Arts Guild based on the inspiration and support she had received from the Chicago-based Catholic Arts Guild. In addition, Jay Muldoon, a Catholic playwright, director and educator, along with his wife, Loraine Muldoon, envisioned a regional program for the education of the person through the arts. They were inspired by the transformative impact an actor and audience can experience through theater. These three elements have developed into our core areas of focus.
The journey from learning of the Sheen Center in 2017 to the launching of Angelico in 2019 has included countless hours of meetings around dining room tables, at coffee shops, with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, with leaders in business, media and the arts, a trip to the Sheen Center and lots of people who shared the vision, helped keep it alive and made it a reality.
In the fall of 2018 The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, who embraced the mission of Angelico, generously granted us seed money for Angelico Programming through the Catholic Ministries Appeal. As we share the vision and goals that energize our efforts, we continue to be in awe of those who communicate that they have had the same vision, have been praying for years for this type of endeavor and are willing to help make it a reality.
Angelico will evangelize the culture by inviting people to Experience, Learn and Connect through Beauty. The Big Dream – building a Catholic Cultural Center in Cincinnati – needs your partnership to make it a reality. Join us!
Angelico Catholic Arts Guild
Angelico Catholic Arts Guild will enrich the faith and the work of artists.
Education of the Person
Angelico will offer educational opportunities through mentoring, master classes, summer programs, workshops, and retreats. In addition, theatrical touring productions and traveling arts programming will support Catholic schools in the region.
“To do Christ’s work we must remain in Christ.” Fra Angelico
The Angelico Project is named in honor of Blessed Fra Angelcio, Dominican Friar, early Renaissance artist, 1395-1455 His feast day is February 18th. His beautiful frescos decorated the monks’ cells of the Dominican friary in San Marco, Florence, Italy, each a meditation designed to inspire meditation. Angelico is the patron saint of artists.
Fra Angelico, pray for us.
